Our Brand Alignment Audit tool is a beta experiment inspired by our Align service, which we developed because so many leaders of social purpose enterprises struggle with a brand story that doesn't quite link up with your objectives.

That disconnect may appear as a gap between your board and your staff—board members pushing for more conservative messaging while program staff advocate for bolder advocacy positions. Or maybe it's a mismatch between your vision and your marketing strategy—you know exactly what change you want to create in the world, but somehow that clarity gets lost when you're writing grant applications or donor appeals.

We decided to try building an AI-powered Brand Alignment Audit because we wanted to experiment with the idea of using AI to help expedite an existing research process we've used for decades. We felt that could be a meaningful way to get feedback on current communication activities more quickly—and help even more social purpose enterprises get more strategic value from their marketing investment.

Think of it as a brand health check-up—but one that actually gives you actionable results instead of vague recommendations to "be more authentic."

Then, we humans apply our creative insight and review the findings to translate them into actionable insights. Because while AI is excellent at pattern recognition and data analysis, it takes human understanding to know why your fundraising email sounds like it was written by your finance department, or why your impact stories aren't quite landing with donors the way they should.

Within a business day or two, you'll get a clear report showing exactly where you're nailing it and where things have wandered off-message. No jargon, no overwhelming recommendations—just practical next steps you can implement with your existing resources and timeline.

A note about our Brand Alignment prototype

The Brand Alignment Audit, when paired with our Voice of Stakeholder research study, helps us assess where that breakdown in your story is happening and develop recommendations for how to bring everyone back to the same page. We've learned that most brand story problems aren't actually communication problems—they're alignment problems that show up in communication.

The traditional brand audit process can take several days to complete. By using AI for the initial analysis phase, we can provide faster insights while reserving human expertise for the strategic interpretation and recommendation development, where it adds the most value.

What we've learned while developing our Brand Alignment Audit prototype, and experimenting with AI tools more broadly, is that AI is a lot like having a very enthusiastic intern. It has tremendous potential and can process information at impressive speed. It frees up time so we can focus on creative and strategic activities. It's VERY eager to please and will work through large datasets without complaint.

But it can, at times, go rogue and make assumptions that seem logical but miss important context, or get overly excited about patterns that aren't actually meaningful. That's why we humans review the AI's findings before sharing them with you.
